How do electronic nameplates work?
A managed electronic nameplate system separates the source of information from the screen at the door. That allows many displays to receive centrally prepared content without someone editing each sign in person.
From information source to visible layout
A calendar-connected sign starts with room reservation data. A directly managed sign starts with content entered or assigned in the control software. The software applies the selected template and associates the result with the intended room and device.
Base stations provide the radio link to plates. In Electronic Nameplate’s design, this is a proprietary protocol using Bluetooth-capable chips. The display receives an update and presents it on a black-and-white e-ink panel.
Buttons create a return journey
A plate has three physical buttons whose labels can be displayed alongside the current application. A “Book 15 min” action needs more than a local change to the screen: it needs a request back through the system and a decision from the connected calendar.
The confirmed result can then be shown at the door. This keeps a person pressing a button and a person booking on a computer from relying on two independent schedules. Exact timing and conflict behaviour need testing in the integrated system.
Plan for exceptions, not only the happy path
A clear-looking sign can still contain old information if communication stops. Commissioning should include a missed update, a gateway outage and a battery change. Agree how administrators identify a device needing attention and how users distinguish current information from a stale view.
The number of gateways depends on the site and the traffic profile. Approximate 20–50 metre spacing is a planning guide, not a guarantee through every wall. Multiple base stations support expansion, while real capacity remains an engineering sizing question.
Questions, answered.
Does the sign need an employee’s phone nearby?
No. The specified system uses its base-station network and control software for delivery.
